WOW STUFF
GIANT ATTACKNIDS
BRIEF
Wow Stuff!, a Midlands-based toy inventor and distributor, sought to elevate the international visibility of their innovative new toy, the Attacknid. This unique toy, a six-legged remote control combat spider, promised excitement and engagement. However, in a competitive market with formidable marketing budgets, Wow Stuff! needed a distinct solution to capture attention and infuse their marketing campaign with the "wow" factor. The audacious idea was to create a fleet of fully operational 5ft-tall Attacknids and dispatch them worldwide to generate media buzz at unconventional events. To turn this ambitious PR stunt into a reality, they needed a team capable of bringing the concept to life. Robo Challenge was swiftly engaged to provide consultancy on how to execute this bold venture, leveraging our diverse expertise to design these 85kg mechanical spiders and conduct simulations to ensure the project was feasible within the client's budget and tight timelines. Our team then embarked on the in-house production of these towering combat creatures, which would be shipped to destinations in the UK, Europe, UAE, and the USA.
Our collaboration with Wow Stuff! involved navigating the complexities of this unconventional project. Drawing upon our technical prowess, we engaged in a multifaceted approach that encompassed 3D CAD design, simulation, and rendering, as well as sculpting and model making, incorporating fiberglass composites. Mechanical engineering expertise was crucial in crafting the intricate mechanisms of these colossal Attacknids. We harnessed arduino technology and custom software to control these imposing creations. Airbrushing techniques were employed to achieve lifelike appearances, and our adept team managed remote control systems, motors, and electronic components.
WHAT WE DID
The impact of our work with Wow Stuff! extended far and wide. The Giant Attacknids achieved prominence on numerous high-profile TV shows, including BBC's "Absolute Genius," Channel FIVE's "The Gadget Show," and Channel 4's "Gadget Man," collectively reaching an estimated audience of approximately 3 million viewers. Furthermore, these impressive creations were featured in Wow Stuff!'s own online videos and even made a notable appearance in KFC's 2013 Christmas TV Ad, amassing nearly 1 million views on YouTube alone. Our collaboration not only helped propel the Attacknid toy to international recognition but also contributed to elevating Wow Stuff!'s brand presence and creating memorable experiences for audiences worldwide.
