UNIT 9, SWISSCOM

SNOW DRAWINGS

BRIEF

In 2017, the World Ski Championships took centre stage in St. Moritz, Switzerland, drawing widespread attention to this high-profile event. Swisscom, a prominent telecoms giant, aimed to engage with fans and convey messages of support to the competing athletes. They conceived a remarkable idea: creating massive snow drawings as a unique means of achieving this goal. To bring this ambitious concept to life, they partnered with London-based production company Unit9.

Robo Challenge played a pivotal role in turning this ambitious idea into a reality. We collaborated closely with the Unit9 team to develop three GPS-controlled, self-driving snow blowers. These machines were then modified to achieve the precision required for creating perfect drawings on a vast scale. The three rovers embarked on a 15-kilometer mission, where they meticulously etched inspirational messages onto an expansive 1.5-kilometer-long snow canvas.

WHAT WE DID

The outcomes were truly extraordinary. The snow drawings, etched by our GPS-controlled rovers, were visible not only from helicopters but also on the slopes where the 2017 World Championships unfolded. This innovative approach garnered significant online attention, with the content amassing an impressive 1.5 million views. Additionally, the project attracted substantial media coverage, adding to its overall success and impact.
